You can buy radio removal tools from a number of sources and none are very expensive. The least expensive vendor I remember anyone mentioning here is Harbor Freight Tools.

Do a board search, some people have actually used metal nail files to pull the unit..

He already

has an aftermarket unit installed. He wants to remove it to change to another unit. Thus no need for mercedes keys,he needs to remove the surround.Someone point him in that direction,I'm out of town having a blast
of a road trip.135mph to Little big horn from Billings,Mt.

Hi Ohlord, shouldn't an aftermarket unit fit into the well with the same mechanism?

I found this before regarding removing the central panel, not sure it would help, but there are 2 screws behind the radio unit before the center panel can be removed.
