Hi,
I have installed new summer tires a few days ago. The car handles very good at low and high speeds, but I noticed that the inside of the wheel is very close (3-4mm) to a bolt that comes out of the steering knuckle. I found a picture of a wheel that is exactly like the wheels on my car. I will also attach a picture of a steering knuckle showing the place where the bolt is.
The tire size is 225/55/16 (just like the one in the picture I found).
Has anyone installed this tire size on a W210? Should I worry (I'm a little nervous when I drive at higher speeds)?
Thanks.
Alin
if you have the wrong offset on the front rims. With 31 et rims you can run 235's with no problems. The tire choice with a 35 to 41 et should have been 215/55/16.Why did you go to a taller tire than original supplied?
And what is the offset of the rims installed?
When I bought the car the tires mounted were 205/60/16. 225/55/16 has approximately the same diameter (2mm larger). The offset is 42.
I was asking you if there could be some kind of problems with the tire itself in particular conditions (4 persons in the car+high speed+very hot outside). Is there a possibility it could change its shape somehow and touch that bolt? When I tested the car after installing the tires, at 200 kph it was no problem at all (but in the car was just me and the passenger).
Hey, alin. That's the stock size on the base 211 and it is one size larger than the 210. Turn the wheel to lock and check the clearance. If it doesn't rub, you should be fine. When they wear out replace with the 210 size. If it does rub you can buy 5mm spacers just for the front and continue to use them, you'll need longer bolts (obviously).
I agree with you Ohlord, but I already paid for the tires...and here once you roll them three feet the seller considers them second-hand. I even asked him if he can give me 215/55/16 instead of 225/55/16 and NO refund - he said no.
Anyway, lesson learned. Thanks
