$285 to replace broken fog lens

So I have a broken driver's side lens and I want to replace it quickly. The indie shop said I have to bring it in to get an estimate, so I called the dealership. Yes Mercedes Benz of Sacramento, one of the worst service shops. The service advisor told me it is labor intensive, and the cost is $285 to replace it. I thought I heard wrong but he confirmed it.

I have nothing but bad experience with this place. Avoid it at all cost.

The Rocklin dealership quoted me $115. Still, that's way out there.

Bringing it to the indie shop tomorrow.

You have sport or no?

(Either way - its not "labor intensive" at all - just higher cost in parts for sport.)

$115 is a bit much for the job. Its really easy if you have the desire to DIY it.

foglight lens costs less than $20 from autohaus, and to change it is easy assuming your 99 e430 has the same setup as my 97 e320. you do need a dirty towel to keep your back clean when you lay on the ground. once you look at it you should be able to figure it out.

LOL.... I just bought a used E320 4MATIC.... it got a license plate written"mercedes benz of sacramento" on there.... And on the carfax records, my car had only one record came from MB sacramento, the rest of them came from MB rocklin. Don't you think everything in MB rocklin is cheaper? I've never been to both of them and I would like to know which one cost less and has better attitude towards customers. I'm actually live in Santa Cruz where there's no MB dealership...

Karl don't you go to MB of Sac. I bought my car there in 98 new, and their service has always, always been bad. Rude, snotty. I am not sure if it is their corporate culture or what but I took my car to Rocklin since I work in that area. Service in Rocklin, owned by a different dealership, is much better. MB of Sac is also always more expensive.

It never ceaes to amaze me whenever I hear of rude service being served to customers MB or otherwise. My MB dealer started off fine but things got sour very fast. I avoid going there at all cost - no pun intended The arrogance and the 'you should be so lucky you're dealing with us ' or 'you're only driving an old Benz' attitude has no place in business. Good service brings back return business. Some proprietors are simply too dumb to grasp that basic concept.

I must admit when I first joined the forum I thought some of you were pretty harsh referring to MB dealerships as 'stealerships' - now I understand. That's not to say that there aren't good MB dealerships out there. I am sure there are but my experience has mainly been negative. Ahhh....feel better now

It took one week from autohaus for the glass lens ($23 shipped), and another twenty minutes to put it on. Done. $285? Stay away from this stealer!!!

I have a 2000 E430 and have replaced the passenger side fog light lens several times and also the fog light bulb. I had the dealership change it once and that was enough. My suggestion would be to order the lens online and replace yourself. There's a flap on the underliner that opens with a large flat screwdriver or even a quarter to get access to the fog light assembly. undo the screws holding the assembly in place, disconnect the electrical connection and drop the assembly through the open flap, pop off the retain rings holding the broken lens (be careful with the broken glass), clean up the reflective surface inside the assembly, reclamp the new lens, and reconnect the electric service. Test the fog lights then rescrew the assembly in place and secure the flap. You may find it easier to raise the front end on ramps to get better access.
