E430 Sport tune-up

Hi,

I have a 1999 E430 sport. I bought it in late '03, and it been a pretty descent car. Aside from the crazy electrical issues (that seem to self-heal), I've had a blown transmission (planetary gearset) and for some reason the front upper support for the coil spring support just decided to break off. I do almost all of my own maintainance and repair, but I think its time for a tune up. I'd like to change the plugs, and I seem to have OK access to them. I've given the wires a good pull, but they don't want to come off of the plugs. I don't want to pull too hard and break something. Is there a special tool to remove the wires from the plugs? So during this tune up, I want to:

Replace air filter
Change the oil and filter
Change the plugs
Flush cooling system and replace coolant
Change climate control air filter (if easily accessible)
Check brake pad wear and replace as needed (already done once)
Inspect the serpentine belt
Inspect coolant hoses

Is there anything else that a home mechanic can do that should be looked at on this model? the car has 130000 miles on it.

That sounds like a pretty good list, but you might want to also change the transmission fluid.

The climate control air filter is not hard to replace, but pulling the glove box out the first time is a bit scary.

I would also add:

Fuel Filter
Differential Oil
Power Steering Fluid

Don't pull

on the wires
That is why you can get the proper 17mm boot removal tool from me for a delivered price
You need to get onto the metal boot and pry it off.If you yank the wires you will be buying a new set of wires when you are done cussing all day about the misfires you caused on wires that will last forever if not abused.
trans fluid and filter spec fluid
bleed the brake fluid properly
change ps fluid
check motor mounts and trans mounts and front end bushings and ball joints.
At 130k shocks are past due
if you know that it had the proper service done at 100 k miles you have a long while before it needs plugs(100k mile change intervals)

O2 ssensors were due to be changed at 100k if they were not you are not getting the best performance and mpg out of your MB

E430 spark plug removal

I have a 2001 E430 and it needs to have the spark plugs changed. We cannot figure out how to get access to the wire. I see where someone recommended a 17mm boot removal - any idea where I buy one of those?
thanks.

OhLord - thanks for pointing me to where I can buy the tool. I noticed that the decsiption of the tool states that this works on 6 cylinders, the 430 is an 8 cylinder....does this tool fit these plug boots as well.

Also, how does the tool work? when I look at the boots, they don't appear to have a shape that a wrench would fit and if I turn them they just spin, they don't turn off. Does this tool pry them off?

Thanks
