Question activating automatic door locks

Hi!

I've searched and searched but can't seem to get instructions on activating the door locks of my car. It's either the option isn't really there or i'm just not searching right. I've a 1996 E200 (W210) and i've read in this forum that the option is already available from W210 onwards. Is that correct? Can anybody point me to the right direction for instructions? Many thanks.

Hello Mans.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Is the remote not working?

Hi Matt.

Yes, the remote is working. I was thinking about the safety feature where the door locks automatically activate and locks all the doors when the car is already running and it reaches a predetermined speed (i think 10kph or something?). This really helps in my locality and i keep forgetting to lock the car doors while driving. Thanks!

For this feature you need to press and hold the door lock switch on your dashboard in the the lock position somehow but I don't remember the precise method. Look in the Stickys at the top of the W210 forum and you will see a link to a PDF file for the complete owner's manual.

I'm not aware that my '96 has this feature. Please follow up if yours does.

BTW, if you have this feature you can also inactivate it by press/holding the dashboard switch in the unlock position. Try doing that with your key in the ignition and in position 2.

Well, i'm also not very sure if there is indeed that feature (AAM is it called?) on my old 96 Eclass. But there were mentions of W210 having it so i ventured.

I've seen this post on the MClass -

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163...wer-locks.html

And they mentioned that in pre-00 models it wasn't pre-activated. Also, somebody was able to activate it by driving to 15mph with the lock button pressed all the way.

I actually have the complete manuals (in print!) but they don't say anything about it.

Also, stupid me can't seem to find the links to the pre-00 W210 manuals online

I guess i'll try out the press-button-while-driving-to-15mph strategy (seems to be the easiest and fool-proof one. Unless someone else has an idea that doesn't require some risk of running into a post?

Called

ACL automatic central locking,if your 96 has it it would be activated at 9 mph.
In park put the key to position two and hold the upper portion of the central locking switch for 5 seconds. To deactivate it reverse the sequence.always remember to deactivate if you ever need to be towed and the tow driver leaves the key in the ignition pos 2.The doors will lock and if you have no spare you will be SOL

The owner's manual for my '96 clearly says to never tow the car with wheels on the ground and the key in position 2.

for the 99 says on a dyno or when being towed in pos2 be sure to deactivate ACL
tow truck driver don't read the manuals and if you have ACL you will get locked out.Well not you, because you have read to not be towed in pos 2.
