Post 2000 E320 rattle.. catalitlic converter?

Is it possible the rattle is comming from a catalitic converter going out? Someone told me it is it, but I cant find anywhere where it makes a rattleing noise.. Like a loose metal ball loose in a metal tube. Only happeneds when Im off the gas, and not happening in neutral. Any suggestions..?

Sounds just like it to me, and I'm 1,900 miles away.

Seriously, that's about right. If you're under 80,000 miles call the dealer, the Feds require they warranty them for 8 years/80,000 miles.

If not there are decent aftermarket cats you can buy and have welded in for a couple hundred dollars total. Check the stickies for more details.

Should you want more confirmation jack up one side or other other and lean under and hit the cat with your palm (fairly hard) and see if you get a reverb/rattle, same thing with the other side.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

gregs210, did you end up putting in the Magnaflow catalyic converters that were Ca CARB/OBD-II compliant? How did you like those? Thanks
