I did the CPS sensor in my 98 e320 4matic today. I found that a craftsman 1/4" drive 6mm deep socket 6 point fits this holding capscrew perfectly, and if you use a 4" extension with a small 1/4" drive ratchet it comes loose very easily. Then, once it is loosened, remove the ratchet from the extension, and spin the capscrew (bolt) out, holding pressure with your index finger against the head of the capscrew to hold it captive in the socket while you pull it out from behind the engine.
I think I could easily do 10 of these per hour (minus the time to recalibrate)
Thanks for the info on this great forum
I'm glad my 79 280sl does not have this stupid sensor (or the cable driven power windows)
Was it in-line 320?
I did it on V8 and had to do it thru the inner fender. Looking at V6 having 3 feet long hand with 2" diameter would make it very easy.

You've met me and that certainly isn't my build, but I did mine the conventional way (albeit with the correct tools) and didn't have a problem. Of course I know a few tricks about starting blind fasteners, as I'm sure you do, too.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Making another topic about removing single, low torque screw holding finger sized, slide-in sensor sure sound like easy job description. Were you able to slide your hand down to the screw and hold it by fingers? I have small hands for a guy, but don't think I could do that on V6. And again on V8 I couldn't even see the screw from the top.

You must not remember all the pics I posted. The camera got in farther than my head and even from its vantage point you can't see the screw. As I noted in the supplemental info I posted the whole job is pretty much done by feel; even the limited visibilty you do have is lost when you stick your hand in there.
If you have a good sense of touch and can easily visualize abstract things this is a very simple job. If not it's still quite doable, just takes longer and you have to keep the frustration level in check...and be sneaky about getting the screw started.
