Injector

Do we need a special tool to take the injectors out on a E300 TD 1997? I was thinking it'll be much easier to take them out and give them a good scrub/ clean instead of running a "cleaner" through the system.
Any advice?
Thank you. Olivier

If you're going to remove them, you should take them to a shop for cleaning and calibrating the pop pressures.

I don't recall if a special tool is needed. I think that you just need an appropriate very deep socket.

I would agree that removing them and cleaning them would be much better then running a cleaner through the system , not sure how to remove them il check it out and let you know

I agree that taking them out for a good scrubbing is preferable to any of the various fuel system cleaners.

I don't recall 6" long sockets in standard sets, so I would call it special tool.
I was able to buy new tips on ebay for around $20 a piece. This it the only part in injectors that wear out, or clog.
Than doing diesel purge helped couple of my Mercedes quite a bit, although did zip on smoking Caterpillar.

I need to take a picture to show that it's not a regular "screw". It's only flat on two side, and I think it's 17 mm. I don't remember when I look at it, it was a while ago when the car was studdering. But as the injectors are tucked in the head a spanner canno get into, or it need to be a bent at 90 degres spanner.
When I got the time I take the panel off and show what it look like.
Thanks to all.
