Programming the Climate Control

Hello Everyone,

First off, I'm new and this site is Awesome. I've been searching for hours and a lot of the information has done wonders for me with some little issues. I have a 1998 E 320 sedan with 86K miles. This is actually two questions:

1. I had a few codes on my climate control and thanks to you guys I was able to figure out which sensors were bad, but I have one code left that I can't find anything on and it's B1 432 which I believe it translates to "Maximum Heat", but I have no Idea what Maxium Heat means.

2. I also was looking at the Programming and I couldn't find anything on this
site that shows what the P1 and P2 settings should be, I wanted to check to make sure I have the right settings that were in there. Mine shows P1 is 70 and P2 is 150, but have no Idea what that means.

Any helps would be appreciated.

Thank You,

Dean

Welcome to BenzWorld Dean! I'm going to slide your query over to the w210 section, where I'm sure you'll garner a helpful response or three.

That is

a non USA diagnostic code,ignore it.Or clear it.What was your problem with the a/c?Is it not working or are you the type that likes to figure out how to make it not work by messing with the programming?

Hey ohlord,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm definitely NOT the kind of guy that messes with things. I had a radio installed by Firedog and since I got it back it seems like the Air was not blowing at Max Speed, but about half speed even on Max. I already did steps 1 - 8 that you mentioned and it turns out to be the Blower Regulator and I read that I can use one from a W140 instead of replacing the Blower and Regulator.

Anyhow...I wasn't sure if FireDog disconnected power because the buttons that control where Air is directed (defrost, feet, face) on the climate control didn't seem to be functioning properly....meaning if I put it on Defrost (Front Window), Air would go to the Front Window and to the Middle (Face) as well so that's when I started checking the programming because I wasn't sure if they disconnected power and I had to reset and program everything. Did the P1 and P2 values seem correct to you?

Thanks again for your help.

Check

the cabin and pollen filters if they have not been changed.You can test voltage to the fan in the diagnostics,and the flaps are controlled by the pse are you sure they did not unplug it and mess up the tubes?

Hey Ohlord. The the filters were replaced last week, I believe there was four of them. On the diagnostics, below are the numbers I get on the left and right after sensors 1 - 8. Not sure what they mean:

9 = 10
10 = 6.0
11 = 1.8
12 = 4.2
20 = 4.6
21 = 126
22 = 00
23 = 00
29 = 13.3
40 = 71
41 = 36
42 = 80
43 = 160.

Also, How do I check if they unplugged the pse? what the heck is a pse? Sorry about all the questions, I'm learning as I go.

Thanks again.

Hey Smith,

I got the P1 and P2 values by turning the Left to High and the Right to Lo, turn the ignition off. Press "REST and Turn ignition "ON" simutaniously. P1 will flash on the Left side and will have a value on the Right side. To go to P2, press EC. You can change the values of P1 or P2 by using the right temperature selector (blue = <; red = >).

I have no idea what it's used for or what the precautions are if they are changed, that is my question as well. Mine are set at 70 for P1 and 150 for P2.

Hope it helps.

Leave them

alone you need a base 16 code to add values to trigger the compressor when it won't trip on due to various factors.Best left to someone who has done it or a shop.(I think it is base 16)

It's really binary, something that the IT industry calls a "bit field." But for hex (or hexadecimal, base 16), it is a very easy conversion between hex and binary so this is often used.

As an aside that you won't care about, in floating-point numbers, the "dot" is generically called a "radix." That radix is called a "decimal point" in base 10, but it's a "hexadecimal point" for base-16 numbers, and a "binary point" for base 2.
