My wife's 1998 E320 4Matic has died while waiting on a stoplight 2 times in the past 2 weeks. Both times, she has been using the A/C - it is hot here in KC. She says all the dash lights come on with no warning message. The car starts right up with no more problems. This was about 5 minutes after leaving work both times. I did a search and found that it might be the crank position sensor? The rpm at idle is right at 500 rpm while stopped in gear. The car has 81,000 miles.
Also, the left rear window regulator exploded last night. I have done this job on all 4 windows on her Lincoln LS we traded for this car. On the Lincoln, once the rivets are drilled out, the new regulator has threaded holes and bolts included to remount it. Do I have to go back in with rivets on the Mercedes, or can I use bolts and nuts?
Hit the diy stickies at the top of this forum and you will find the procedures to replace your window regulator (or repair it, much cheaper) and change the CPS, and that would be my first guess as to the sudden stalling as well.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

The same thing happened to my e320 have you seen you need serivce A or B done. If so get the services done and u wint have to worry about the stallling problem. Also stop buy a auto zone to check you battery for free.
i'm not tryng to be rude mercedes benz e320, but you didn't even know why your check engine light came on in one of your original posts. and you are semi right that if you go to the dealer and get an a and b service done, your engine might not stall any more, that is because they will charge a small mint to find out that your battery is not holding enough charge or that your crank position sensor needs to be replaced. nothing personal mercedes benz e320! i just can't sit back and let someone with limited knowledge about these cars give bad advice. and i am in no way implying that i know a lot. sorry again if this came off harsh, again nothing personal.
an a and b service will not fix your car, it is to maintain your car and find things for the dealership to make money on. and yes you should go to autozone or other auto parts store, but only so that you can get your obd2codes read. write down the codes and post here. there is so much experience on this forum, someone will help you out. but don't go to the dealership unless you love to waste money or you and the rest of this forum are really stumped. and do yourself a huge favor and post your location on a seperate thread and ask for people's input on local independent mechanics in your area. you will same a ton of money! i'm sure there are a couple of members on this site that have good indie in KC,
