Almost every sun sensor is bad, do a search here there is a fix for it using parts from radio shack that cost a fraction of the MB part.

EDIT

Here it is, if you are handy at all this looks easy.

Thank You for the link,
that encourages me to repair it myself.

How do I remove the unit ? From top of the dashboard or from underneath ?
Thanks

I have not done mine yet, and I am away from the car now, but from the looks of the sensor in the link, it looks like it comes out the top. That is my best guess from the looks of the hooks that hold it in. Let me know after you get a chance to look it over.

Go

into error mode and clear the code. The sun sensor does nothing more than speed up the fan under certain conditions and you can do that by reaching up and hitting the button.many more things to be concerned with doing.

I don't know if mine is functioning as intended but my blower motor does increase in speed when the sensor is exposed to direct sunlight. Under what other "certain conditions" is it supposed to come into play?

I've been following the threads on the sunlight sensor and its time for my dumb question:
on an '02 E320, where specifically is the sensor? Is it on the front panel on the climate system controls in the dash? Thanks.
