remote key repair question
Hi,
I couldn't find anything on this by searching the forums. Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the shell of the older style black remote key? While changing the batteries, it appeared that the electronic components just slide and snap into the plastic shell of the key and could be pulled out with a needle nose pliers.
The flexible plastic skin covering the "lock" button on mine is torn but the key still works perfectly. If the guts can come out, I could replace the skin with one from a bad key but I don't want to destroy my working key by trying to take it apart not knowing what I'm doing. As they say, "fools rush in..."
On the 2001 E "smart key" the board pulls out. You need to do it to change the batteries. Take out the metal key, there is a small bar in the opening, push it and the main board pulls out. You do need to get a remote (and use it for the housing) from E-Bay since MB does not sell it.
