The fan shroud does not cover the radiator completely. There is about 5 inches where it is left open. I called the dealer using the part number on it and it is the correct part.
I find it quite odd that it is designed this way. Anyone notice this?
By the way, looking at a 99 E320, the fan shroud covers the radiator completely. Can it be used instead of the original one?
Engine temperature of the E420 (monitored by the climate control panel #6 ECT) lies between mid 80 to below 100 C depending on the engine load, AC, ambient temp & road speed in contrast to my 83 300SD which runs at nearly constant mid 80.
I just think there is some less stellar engineering being done for the E420.
