Do you have a photo of those "unique" 17" wheels posted in the pics sticky? Are they different than the standard E430 or the Sport model wheels?

As you know many parts are involved to add a 4matic system in a car. Also don't forget the transmission and power splitter for front and rear. 4matic has completely different front wheel setup.
The only way to know the difference is to compare identical cars non 4matic vs 4matic sticker prices.

You can't look at the over the counter parts costs for parts and assume that this has anything to do with how much it costs MB to put in the car.

They offered the option at cost because it was considered a safety option. IN the 2005 S class, 4matic was a no cost option.
