DTC Readout

Error Codes:
  • 1231
  • 1232
  • 1234
  • 1416
  • 1422- I read that this is something to do with the instrument cluster, what can be done about this?

I know 1-8 is AC related, and i am apparently low on refrigerant, and that my engine coolant temperature sensor is malfunctioning, but as far as the other values, is anything too low/high?
Values:
  • 1 89
  • 2 67
  • 3 76
  • 4 76
  • 5 76
  • 6 220
  • 7 05
  • 8 78
  • 9 27
  • 10 0
  • 11 3.1
  • 12 4.0
  • 20 9.1
  • 21 76
  • 22 31
  • 23 32
  • 24 11.6
  • 40 164
  • 41 85
  • 42 08
  • 43 136

Also i believe i have a small leak in my coolant system, is it really not good to use the the refrigerant with the leak stop in it? I say this because i've been looking at the #7 value and its been gradually getting lower and lower day to day

Any insight to this would be appreciated

is coolant temp, your engine is running very hot
leak is a leak it needs to be located and repaired.R134a with stop leak is a no no.
You have no or very little cooling, correct?
Find out why the car is running so hot.locate and fix the leak.Clear the error codes while in error mode hit both auto buttons at the same time.

I cleared the errors, ran the AC, the AC is running okay now, but i think it could be better (im guessing because of the low R134a?)
also, it hasbeen very hot around here lately, and my engine has always ran kinda hot but now that the summer is here, the engine has been running REAL hot (close to overheating) in stop and go traffic, but then it will go back down to around 80 degrees once i get moving, perhaps its time for a antifreeze change? I dont know when the last time it was changed.., I've owned the car for about a year now (my first car) 97 E420 (sry about the lack of my info im going to edit that now) but it didn't do this last summer.

Ahhh...now we're getting to the meat of the matter.

There was a thread virtually identical to this post in the last week or two. Overheating at idle, cool at cruise = engine/auxiliary fan NOT working properly (or a failed fan clutch if yours is mechanical). Coolant has virtually *nothing* to do with operating temperature, it merely extends the "liquid" temperature range of H2O. (Of course you should also ensure that your coolant is at the proper level, a slow leak and low level can mimic these symptoms to some extent.)

So check out the main or auxiliary fans and there you will find the solution to both of these issues, although if you have a leak in the AC system you'll need to get that fixed.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I got the same problem, code 231, 234, 235. I think the engine coolant sensor is failing and that is why you get that 222 degree. The sensor costs only $26 from the dealer, you probably can get it cheaper else where. I strongly suggest replacing the sensor first. Then if it still reads implausible number like that, you'll know it's something else. I will try to replace mine soon as I can find the DIY for it.

Actually, 222 is a realistic number -- but getting high. Coolant and pressure bring such temperatures into the range of still being liquid, so if there is something wrong with the cooling system -- as there appears to specifically be for the OP -- I would bet at least in his case that is a valid number from a functional sensor.

well the number i just pulled now for #6 is 78, i checked again and it says 220, shut the car off try again it said 220, went to number 8 then back to 6 it said 78, so im guessing that sensor must be going?, also im going to check on the auxilary fan, when should it kick on?
Is it supposed to run all the time? ill check the DIY section for replacing and any fuse/s connected to the auxilary fan so i can check it out myself, also i checked the #7 , still at 05, maybe there is no leak but the ref pressure sensor is going as well? about 6 days ago #7 read 24 (seems high?), and about 3 days ago it read 07, yesterday and today 05
