Just got back from Los Angeles. On the way down the Grapevine on I-5 towards SF, ABS ESP and Brake Assist lights came on. Brakes felt fine and car was running well.
When I stopped the car later for fuel the light went off and stayed off. Any idea what is happening? What trigger these lights.
Also, I was fiddling with my radio looking for some radio channel and suddenly it quit and started asking for code. Once I entered the code radio was up and running. Do you guys think any of this is related? A power spike?
Car was running fine and I was cruising at about 80 - 90 mph but the outside temp was a scorching 108 all the way on I5.
Fuel economy was not that good. My readings were 24mpg, avg speed 79mph 200 miles.

Hey, yumling. I think that mileage is fine given that speed, the AC being on and the high heat.
If I recall correctly there is a key combination on the radio that can call up the 'enter code' mode, seems like it's happened to a couple folks on the forum.
I suspect the brake light was an early indication that the switch is failing, easy and cheap DIY in the sticky.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I looked up the sticky on the switch and I will replace the item.
But this little switch could be a big money maker for unscrupulous mechanic or dealer. It would be easy to lighten ones wallet to the tune of $300 to $500 esp with the dire warning from the on board system warning of "Brake", ESP, ABS failure!
My aunt who is no mechanic had a W123 250 (yes it is an inline 6). Almost every year she gets her "brake master cylinder" changed. I guess if you know nothing about cars and your mechanic tells you that your "BRAKE master cylinder" is failing you would just pay to get it fixed.
That car also has a Solex or Pieberg (sp) carb which is very expensive to fix.
This part is cheap enough that if you don't want to wait for shipping it should be under $30 with tax at the stealer. Don't know where you are but I prefer SF Benz, their parts guys are nice and sometimes even give you a discount. Autobahn is okay but strictly by the book, and in my (thankfully) limited experience not terribly helpful. [Latest example, I went in to get PS fluid and a bottle of Lubrizol. Guy grabbed the PS fluid right away but gave me a blank stare when I asked for the Lubrizol. Told him what it was, he tapped away on his keyboard, couldn't find anything. Luckily I had my smartphone with me, surfed here, found the part number and gave it to him and he was back with it in less than a minute. My guess is the folks at SF Benz would have been more helpful.]
FWIW this is another part I'm going to buy just to have on hand!
