Cabin Filter - How do you remove the top 2 screws?
This is ridiculous because I've been trying to remove the top 2 screws for 2 hours w/o success. I saw that there are 2 holes on the top but they don't seem housing any kind of screws. I mean are these 2 holes the one that suppose to have the screws in there? Please help me guys, I thought this suppose to be easier than it looks.
I used special short (about 2") screwdriver.
Lot of members who bought used cars reported the top screws missing. Evidently not too many mechanics put them back when they do filter replacement. Maybe you spend 2 hr unscrewing non-existent screws?
Ok so let me get this straight, the top 2 screws are actually beside the light fixture, NOT INSIDE it right? Now if that's correct, all I have to do now is to pull out the glove compartment, but apparently seems like something is holding it, am I suppose to pull upward then outward or what is the trick here?
Originally the screws are in oval holes with plastic covers just like the bottom ones. Read the topics already on the forum. Besides the screws the glove compartment is having holding fins, that need to be yanked out. I think they are additional crush protection, but never had any explanation for them from MB.
Anyway, I push the top rim of glove compartment down to uncover 2 slots. Those slots are almost lined up with the fins behind. Flat screwdriver inserted in the slot and twisted push the fins down and unlocks the box.
try using a mirror to look in the screwholes in the ceiling of the glove box. i struggled with a small screwdriver for a while before i discovered that the screws were missing.

I think you are having trouble with the fins - read this link - (near bottom)
I think so, because the 2 holes on the top are actually empty. I put my finger way deep inside to try to feel where the screw is, silly me. I will try to pull it out upward first and see if that helps it. Thanks guys.
When I did mine, the 2 screws were not there either. I just follow some instruction to just put a little jerk at it. It came out pretty easy with a little jerk.
When you have the glove box out, there is a little plastic cylinder that will act as a damper for glove box door. The plastic hook that hold the thing in place seems to be worn out a little bit and will not hold, may be because it was removed several times. First time I didn't have it put back right and have to redo it again after doing some reading. I ended up having to use some wire twister to hold it before putting it back to make the damper function normally.
And one more thing about the light fixture, you just prey it off right? I tried really hard but I still couldn't get inside the light fixture to prey it off, I'm afraid I might break it. Is there a trick?
I just spent another 2 hours trying to take out the glove compartment. This time all the screws are off, and yes my top 2 screws are missing. I was able to prey off the light fixture. But it seems like the glove compartment are still being held by some kind of screws on the top. I jerked it down then out, I jerked it up then out, but neither worked. I jerked it so hard I can actually see my dashboard is coming off, but it still won't come off. I would hate to bring it to the dealer just to see them take it out easily. This is so frustrated and I think Mercedes did this on purpose so that they can make money off me even on the simplest task.
