A very long time ago I pulled off my hood ornament (which I still like, just too many people can't leave them alone--someone tried to pull the star off mine and that is the paint ding visible to the left of the ornament location, at least they didn't bend the hood, darn miscreants) and replaced with a flat badge from either an ML or an SLK, same thing anyway. I never really loved the look of that badge and had seen an AMG that fit right into the dished opening and that gave me the idea to play with my old one. (There were stone chips in the star anyway, so it wasn't worth much to me.) In any event the ML badge was looking pretty peaked (that would be the "before" pic below) and I finally got around to finishing off making the replacement. For a first attempt I think it came out great; those of you who've been around for a while will recognize the resemblance to dfwdude's insert. I don't know if he came up with the idea first, but either way, he's doing it for profit anyway.
Excuse the dirty car, I at least hit the area around the badge with some QD to pull the dirt from around the ML badge.
I do like the look...and it cost me very little.
Plus I have the satisfaction of DIY!!!!
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Its an improvement over the other washed out looking one.
To bad you're in an area where your star is a target, as that looks the best to me for sedans.
I had an 82 300SD that somebody stole the star from when I was in Vegas in '87.
I don't know if it's a gang thing or what, they are so cheap I don't know why people feel the need to steal them. Maybe they think they are a high-dollar item. Aside from residual damage I don't care much, I guess I'd rather them steal the star than key the paint or cut the tires.
I have to admit I vacillate between the OEM and the flat look. The flat is much more subtle and I do like it (particularly this one that fits the dimpled area so well).

Not to mention that you are now so much more aerodynamic!

Is this smaller badge sold for as a W210 /E320 badge?
Or for another Benz Model?
If so for which model?
What is the outside diameter of the badge?
Thank-You.
Old Polish joke says, that the sticking star on the hood is for zooming on the target.
I am keeping mine originals.
I removed couple of similar stars from older MB on junk yard and have them on the shelf. Need to check if they are the same diameter.
Talking about parts stealing. Last week being in Las Vegas I noticed front tow hook cover missing. I can't say when it happened, since we don't see the front on car parked in the carport, but I don't think the cover would accidentally fell off?
It is $63 part.

One of two possibilities comes to mind. Either someone somehow lost one and didn't want to pay $63, or some stupid gang or other ritual (hey, go steal something off that car!). The option we need is something that when the key is out of the car and the feature is "armed" (like the anti-tow button) and something is removed, an electrical discharge from a stored capacitor zaps the tar out of anything in the area of the removal and sets off the alarm.
Might not stop it initially, but once word got out....
How much does duval want for it? Or your wrecking yards where you get the old refittable slider pieces?
