The engine stalls while driving for no apparent reason. Normally, I pull off, turn the ignition switch and it will start up fine. It happened several times in the past few months and yesterday I had to be towed from the highway. The starter cranks fine but the engine will not start (it eventually did a few hours later and I drove the car for some time but after parking in front of the house the same story repeated).
Also a new problem appeared - the windows would go down but not up. Again a few hours later I managed to close them by pressing the button and helping them with hand. The battery seems strong.
On a few occasions the 'Check Electronics' light went on.
Any ideas? ECU, MAF, CPS...?
Thank you.

Hey, beb0a, welcome to the forum. Please complete your user profile re: vehicle and location as that is useful information.
For future reference, your owner's manual, the forum search function and the sticky DIY links at the top of this forum will answer about 90% (if not more) of the questions you should ever have.
In this case your symptoms as ohlord has correctly noted point directly at the Crank Position Sensor, simple enough job if you raise the hood all the way and have the proper torx bit/socket depending on MY. You will have to have your engine serial number as that was a change year, or you can look at the plug/connector on yours to see how it connects. Additional information is in the CPS change DIY in the sticky.
Follow the instructions in the manual to reset the windows. The first catch/detent on the window switch should raise and lower them, if you push it all the way that is the one-touch feature and until synchronized it won't work (so pressing the rocker all the way the window doesn't move).
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

My wife's 98 E320 was doing the same thing. Stalling from a dead start frequently. I replaced the CPS, fuel filter and spark plugs but it still stalls.
Interested in hearing about any other solutions.

Before throwing any more parts at it, have the codes read with an OBDII scanner and post them here. Have you ever seen a check engine light?

Have you guys have your service done like service A, B ect. My 2000 Mercedes Benz e320 did the same thing when i was at a light. Or sitting somewhere at a drive through. Later on my car started rumbling when i waited at a light or drive through but when i accelerated i didnt feel it anymore. Then the next day a message came up telling me i needed service B done. So i took it to get it done. And my car worked proparly again.
My E320 did the same thing, Autozone plugged in a code reader for free and it came up Mass Air Flow sensor. I got the Cardone Reman sensor for $154 after core value.
The sensor was simple to put in, just need a screw driver for hose clamp and the rest just snaps out, 2-3 minutes.
Fixed the problem instantly, the car runs fine, it was literally undriveable before.
I also saw the original Bosch Sensors on EBAY, said they were new for $58-$69 dollars, I opted for Autozone the Cardone Reman I feel is better than the OE that they wanted $460 for.
I initially thought it was CPS, but the engine cranked and started just wouldn't run, when I gave it gas it killed, sometimes would rev.

Those cheapies on eBay are junk. Several people made that mistake and I hope yours continues to function properly. I don't remember seeing any reviews on those Cardones but they have to be better than the ones you mentioned on eBay.
reman was more than the 167 oem bosch brand new item from autohausaz.com.And they give people the same problems as the fakes, spend the money on oem from autohausaz.com.
other poster with the stalling problem, get it on a scope if no codes, could be the other critical sensor for running values the cam position sensor located on the front of the passenger side head.
