Sometimes my BAS light come on, then follows immediately by the ASR light. I already changed my brakes 4 months ago, brand new brakes. The strange thing is sometimes the BAS/ASR lights come on, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes they only come on after I pressed the brake pedal or run over a bump. Sometimes they just don't come on at all during my 16 mile trip to work. Sometimes they simply com on when I start the car.
I understand that I need to extract the code from my car to determine the problem, but is it possible to do the diagnostic yourself? Mercedes said they will charge me $125 to diagnose. I wonder if there's such cable or anything that I can hook up to the car to diagnose the code. Please help, these lights are super annoying.

Hi, squirrel. Up in the DIY stickies you'll find one on this topic. This alert has nothing to do with worn brakes. Rather, with those symptoms I'd replace the brake light switch. You don't need codes, cables or anything else. Cheap part, easily replaced, problem solved.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

And just if you're wondering - it's a cheap part. Used to be less than $20.

you will see it is easy Step 5
i don't think the dvd explains it any better rhen just moving the steering wheel all the way up and back and kust following what the diy tips are.The dvd does not hold your hand and guide you along, sometimes you need to trust you intuitive powers and just get er done.
you only need to do the steps to remove the under panel and then follow along to diy the switch.
squirrelonfire Its a simple job, if you follow the DIY the only hardest part is removing the lower dash...and really thats easy just removing screws, the part itself honestly takes 5 minutes or less to put in place...just follow the DIY
And I almost forgot.. Ohlord left out the most important part-make sure you have some Advil handy for your back!!! because you do have to lie sideways to get under there.
