I had one that was deformed and bought a new one. It's called a "001-997-95-86 PLUG". The new part cost less than $10 from the local dealer.
Upon removing the old one, I am greeted by rust. It is not clear whether the plug cracked via misuse and let water in, or whether water got in via another means and the rust formation damaged the plug. I would bet on the former, but cannot be sure.
In any case, ensure that your lift pad plugs are not damaged.
I'll try to get some pictures to attach, if I can find the time. In the meanwhile, I'm deciding whether I can just glass over where the rust was to smooth it out, or if I need to weld in new metal. It's not badly compromised.
glass compound will just compound the rust problem.POR at some body shop supply places or eastwoods online stop the rust and rebuilds the metal.then you can sand and color coat with rattle can paint.
