Brake Pads

First off, let me say this website has been very informational the past 2 years that I have been viewing it, but I just recently became a member.

I need to replace my brake pads and rotors and am currently looking for something beside the OEM brake pads. I really like the quality of those brake pads, but cannot stand the brake dust that I have been cleaning for the past 3 years. For those of you that have ventured away from the OEM brake pads for something with less brake dust, what has been your experience and would you recommend your brand? Also any recommendations on which rotors to go with?

I am currently driving a 2000 E320 and just don't want to compromise quality to get rid of some brake dust. Any feedback is appreciated!!

Hey, CO, my old stomping grounds.

If you shop on line you can find the Axxis deluxe plus for just a bit more than OEM, lower dust, excellent performance hot or cold, wet or dry and the pad isn't so hard it will wear out your rotors faster.

If you change compounds dramatically, such as to the Akebono ceramics, conventional wisdom is that you should change the fronts and the rears. There is some discussion about this on the various forums; suffice it to say there is the potential for a safety issue and only you can decide whether the possibility of the risk is worth the few bucks you'd save (you can probably guess I would not...).

MB brakes are very, very well designed, so there is really no reason to replace the rotors with anything other than the OEM. All you'll do is spend money you could have spent on something else (like a MAF or window regulator). Order them, the brake paste and the sensors from autohausaz.com, free shipping, good service. If you go aftermarket on the pads you'll have to shop somewhere besides autohausaz, but for the OEM stuff they're usually pretty hard to beat.

Welcome to the forum (finally!), by the way.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I have read that the newer redesigned OEM pads are harder and create less brake dust. I don't know if the rotors have been redesigned too, but that is what I'd try first.

I just did m my front using Akebonos. Infact, my plan was to swap rotors too but after seeing that the rotors were just fine, I took a chance and installed the Akebonos on the OEM rotors - that was just last weekend and I love the ride - no nise, no dust!
