One new sticky thread for DIY suggestions? Please provide.
Five negative responses along with Greg's excellent suggestion means that I need to revise the poll and let whoever voted in the last one have a chance with this modification.
How about one new sticky thread for suggestions for DIY additions?
My motivation is that I would like input other than in the threads themselves. Sure, I do see the suggestion for a DIY there, but often I don't have enough time to add them to the DIY thread right away. Posting them in a separate, dedicated thread would be a give you a concrete place for this sort of thing.
Still, I would think that discussion would be deleted after it has served its purpose, so the thread would not grow excessively long.

I think that is an excellent suggestion Matt. By the way, I was not one of the negative votes on your other poll. As the regulars here all know, I don't DIY because I have a CPO warranty that takes care of most things. Therefore, I didn't think my vote either way would be meaningful.

I'm really asking if you as a user would be willing to post to the thread. I think it would make it easier to help us improve the DIY threads with the best possible content.
I think that is an awesome idea! What about also adding info on how something works or how to check it. Example the "acid-test"discribed in G-AMG's DIY for replacing the engine mounts. Maybe there are some things where fixing the problem is self explanitory, but finding the cause isn't quite as easy for us newbie's. Just an idea

Matt,
My original concern would be the size of the thread. The other concern is that new members would request DIY's that can be found using the search feature. It would also be painful to have DIY's added that can be found in the owners manual. You would really have to be selective as to what was added for the sake of keeping it truly informative and clean

These are all valid concerns, and the best criticism to the idea that I've seen. I would clearly need an opening article stating the purpose of the thread, and I hadn't considered that people would post questions asking for articles. Of course, blindly adding every suggestion isn't the plan.
As for stuff that's also in the owner's manual, if the thread in question does add something or is more clear than the owner's manual, it just might belong.

The first sentence I agree with most heartily; whether a particular member might use a specific DIY is to me not the question, but whether it is worthwhile information to other members and most of us could have a say in that.
However, as to the second sentence I must disagree, because then my stuff would have to go!

Yes, BUT....... you can not promote your own diy...
I think this would be great but as a quality control, only another member who has DONE THE DIY PROCESS at issue could promote it to the sticky 'promotion' area.
Some people just want to be famous ( listen to an LA CA USA guy talk ) and will try to promote anything, correct or not, USEFULL OR NOT, just to get a name.
Use this new area as a 'like nominating' area??
