I notice that when the engine is idling, the serpentine belt tensioner moves quite a bit. Is this normal? I can see the pulling moving left and right about 1 to 1.5 inches.
I need to replace my tensioner. It failed and the car ate the belt. I got the replacement parts yesterday. Any DIY pictures? Looks simple, but I have always needed to disconnect the top radiator hose to replace the belt.
Hmmmm, I don't know how I neglected to post this in the past, but here is a belated DIY.
One IMPORTANT photo which was NOT included is the difference between the "NEW" and "OLD" style tensioners. The OLD style (as pictured) has the E10 bolt on the "face" of the tensioner, while the NEW style has a 17mm "HEX" type bolt (use a regular 17mm socket and a short extension, ie. 2 or 3 inch) and torque to the "RIGHT" side of the car to install the new V-Belt (ie. Counterclockwise looking face-On). This "HEX" Bolt-head is in the "7 O'Clock" of the tensioner (when looking face-on to the tensioner)
I hope this helps.

Reason: grammer
My old unit can't keep quiet so I have ordered the new style and I will follow G-AMG step by step. Great instructions with pics once again to add to my scrap book. SWEET
