Auto A/C override...???

I didn't see this anywhere guys so

forgive me if it's posted...My better

half's 2000 E320 A/C has quit cooling...

I cleaned the duo valve and did a self

diagnosis on the auto a/c...values are as

follows...

1 - 84
2 - 85
3 - 87
4 - 84
5 - 82
6 - 177
7 - 06
8 - 85

Diagnostic
codes....232
............234
............235
............424

According to the troubleshooting page it's a

little low on 134...I have guages and 134..

but how can I get the compressor to come on

to charge system..???...I've read that the

compressor kicks off for fuel savings...any way

to bypass this to get the compressor to kick on...???

THANK YOU in advance...an OLD tech...2quick

If it is set on Auto the compressor and fan will behave accordingly. Just push the down arrow button on either side (will disable the auto setting) and run the temperature all the way down until it says LOW.

You're right, there should be a compressor relay somewhere (try looking in the various fuse boxes and if you're lucky there will be a chart in the box; I think there are 3 of those boxes - beneath driver's side dashboard, under the hood, and near the battery under the rear seat). Sorry, but I cannot be of any more help here.

Welcome to the forum, Quick. Please complete your user profile with your vehicle year and model and your location.

Code B1232 is probably keeping the compressor from running. Clear the codes and try again.

As far as I know, the compressor only turns off if the evaporator is below 37F.

Is the

ec light stuck on or can it be turned off?
go into the error mode and hit both auto buttons at the same time to clear the errors. Then try to turn off the ec button.Value 5(82f) on an 80 plus degree day seems pretty high,do the diagnostics point out the evap temp sensor as a possible issue. When running correctly value 5 is normally in the low to upper 30f range.

several of went round and round on this but some of the bypass info may help you.

My opinion is if it has leaked enough to shut down the compressor it is time to have a pro(and everyone knows my reluctance in suggesting that)but locating a big leak or a small one costs money for the sniffer at harbor freight tools or a dye kit and then you need to evacuate the system and flush the lines and install a new drier and refill the system.Very few diy'rs have those tools.

Thanks Musikmann, Matt L, Ohlord for the replys... I'm an OLD tech...master..ASE cert. in a/c and others areas.....I have recycler...charging stands..seperate guages for both r-12 and 134...I have NEVER used a dye...maybe some of the newer stuff is easier on orifice tubes, driers, old poa valves or expansion blocks...but my big problem is I'm just not up on the BENZ period...I'm learning here at this GREAT site tho...lol...

good read ohlord..I still add oil bro...compressors are way to expensive...lol

OK back to it...no the ec light is NOT stuck on...I've got an old propane sniffer that never fails...and a new digital...but if I can't charge it enough I'll never find the leak...unless it's a low side leak...then I could...oh well I'll clear the diag. codes and see if it kicks on...then I can at least get some accurate readings on my guages... I'll yell back...again thanks for the help men...you all know how it feels to have someone to bounce an idea or a thought off of...especially when your trying to troubleshoot something new...lol

ps...my time here will be spent trouble shooting and helping as I find my way along the BENZ way...I'll help with ANY problem that I have with my own...

That's

like the 20 member who had multiple codes and when I suggest the error code clearing it allows the compressor to triggerGlad it worked and that you had all the tools to get the job done,I like those sniffers also, harbor freight tools has one that adjusts from general to super sensitive for 60 bucks. Not as nice as a pro one like you have, but gets the job done for an average diy'r.
