Stupid License Plate Question

My car did not come with plates, and I'm going to pick them up this week.

Any idea what bolt size holds them on?

Thanks,

Boris

Not stupid at all, and this has been asked before. The Mercedes license plate bolts have a pretty narrow thread pattern and I would just buy them from a dealer. I don't know if Joe's Hardware would have any that are comparable.

Dealer will probably comp install plates if you act like you are interested in the future use of their services

Rear bolts are M5 (metric). About M5X16 should do it.

In metric speak this means a 5 mm shaft diameter bolt, 16 mm long measured from under the bolt head. There are indeed different metric thread pitches, but there is also a "most common" pitch for each size, and that's what you'll find and that's what you need. TruValue will have these, even in stainless, even in allen head. The black finish screws will rust.

This all is applicable if threaded inserts have not been previously damaged by someone using incorrect--read SAE--screws.

Front plate mount system can be anything as it's a dealer install system. No experience with this as in my state no front plate requirement.
