They recommended a fluid & filter change every 30,000 miles. And yes, it had a normal dipstick.
However, no change ever for the manual tranny on the W201!

As I understand it, MB has changed the "filled for life" directive with WIS SI00.20-P-0022A.
However, I cannot find the darn thing.
Does anyone have access to it?
My transmission recently failed (115k miles on a 1999 e300TD - never serviced because I was told I didn't need to, "filled for life". All pre 100k maintenance done at the dealer.
I have been told that if I can find an official document showing the change that they will participate in the repair.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Christy

Reason: grammatical error
So is the opinion that the 722.6 gearbox is a more unreliable gearbox than earlier MB gearboxes and requires more maintenance than the other generations? Just wondering since the 4 spd auto on my 190E went 226,000 miles without ever changing the oil or even adding any oil. And the oil was still totally clean at that mileage.
I religiously replace the tranny oil and filter every 30K miles on my W124. While the old fluid doesn't seem very dirty, it is no where near as clean or as red as the new one replacing it. I realize oil viscosity/quality is not directly related to oil color but MB states in their literature that the fluid should be replaced every 30K miles so I do so. So far, the tranny has 210K miles and it shifts great!
On my W210 I replaced tranny fluid/filter at 80K miles (when I purchased it) and now every time I change the oil and filter, I will replace 2 qts of the tranny fluid as well (amount that I can vaccum out from the dipstick tube) and then, every 50K miles I will drop the pan and replace fluid/filter again.
I think with the W210 (especially 722.6 trans) being at most 10 years old, it's probably rare to find transmission failure. As much as I like to pamper the transmission, I believe the fluid should still give proper protection for the AT well pass 100,000 miles.
Uncleanliness checking fluid level, moisture, climate, broken seals etc.. may reduce the life of the AT. But I've look at many cars with over 100000 miles, their AT fluid is still very clean, so there shouldn't be that much difference with MB car.
I think we can change the poll to a different topic to get more replies - personally I really don't know.
