Wink Check Engine- Engine Electronics...

I bought this 1997 E420 with 73K miles on it about 1 month ago and I was sitting at a drive through and the "CHECK ENGINE-ENGINE ELECTRONICS" light came on and will not go off. Does anyone who what this might be or has had the same thing happen to them? Thank You.

autozone will check your codes for free. take your car there tomorrow, tell them to write down the code for you on a piece of paper, and also tell them to erase the code. then write the code on here, and someone here will let you know what;s going on.

The gas light started flashing so I immediately went to that gas station and put some gas in. Could this have anything to do with the battery? Also if putting gas in fixes the problem, Will the check engine light automatically go off or do you have to have someone clear it off?

Don't start a whole new thread everytime.

just reply to your original thread...........
So we will consider this the beginning.
The fuel lamp blinking is a pre check engine light warning to indicate a leak in the fuel emissions system .Has the check engine light gone off since you checked that the fuel cap is on correctly?
If not unscrew the fuel cap and gently pry out the gasket and flip it over and reinstall the cap.See if that clears the check engine light.

Thank you for your reply's. I have taken off the gas cap and turned the rubber gasket around and the light is still on. The gas cap was wet when I took it off and somebody dropped the gas cap when getting gas yesterday. Are any of these factors?
Thank You-1997 E420

Hey, mb333, please update your profile with your car and location info as that is useful information.

Also, please stop posting a new thread on this topic. All you do that way is add confusion and destroy the consistency of the thread. Go to your current post and add your information there. And you'll find my response to your above inquiry in that thread as well.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Yes. You pretty clearly have a problem in the vent/recovery system. Dropping the cap isn't necessarily good or bad it all depends on how it hit, etc. But it shouldn't be wet. Check and clean the purge valve, pull the charcoal canister, let it all dry out (I would probably replace the gas cap as well as the charcoal canister, it's probably saturated, that and the purge valve are in the DIY stickies). After you do all that disconnect the battery and step on the brake for a half a minute to reboot the car, then when you start it back up you'll have to go through the resets (windows, ABS, radio) but that will also clear the codes and if everything is okay in the vent/evap system you'll be good to go.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg
