Wagon hatch lift struts possibly going out

one or both struts are making a squeeky noise and the door doesn't lift as easily as I remember. Does strut replacement require alot of trim removal? and anyone know if the struts are auto parts store generic or special order.

struts wear out, eventually. mini shock absorbers. you can see if the strut has
a model # stamped on it and try to buy a generic one. truth is, I've never seen
an MB one up close so unknown how specific a brand/model. I have replaced on
a couple of trucks and because the access is so out in the open, they take less
than 5 mins total. hope it's relatively easy for you.
