hmmm, seems like the clutch packs are worn out...try this, drain the oil and remove the oil pan, check for grains on the pan itself, from there you can find out if the linings are worn, and check the oil if it is smelling burn or black in color.

That is ambiguous but since he is talking about the clutch he must mean the transmission fluid (It is a type of oil and some people call it that). You just changed your ATF so I don't see how that is going to help you. Did the ATF look anything like he described before you changed it? If so, I suppose that makes his answer more sensible.

Yea, I figured he meant ATF. Some people in some parts of the world call it oil. But, yea when I drained it came out looking like watered down melted chocolate icecream.
But anyway, after doing some research online about the Carsoft and the different programs in the Benz ECU, I found out that EGS refers to the transmission. I guess its some german abbrevation. SO, in the Carsoft theres an option to reset/clear it. So I figured why not and give it a try. I noticed right away when I put her in rev that she didn't jump or clunk into gear. It was smooth, almost like she didn't even go into gear. Got out of the driveway onto the street, and put her in drive and same thing, real smooth. Went down the road and she shifted into 2nd at about 3400 rpms. Everything seems to be fine now ! I kept driving around in circles around the nieghborhood, each time getting balliser and balliser going farther and farther. Did that for about an hour and a half and everything seemed fine. Got home, no codes or nothing. Both engine and trans. There was four codes in the transmission befor all this, I wrote them down before I cleared them and reset the EGS with Carsoft, but don't have them with me right now, but I'll post them for everyone for future reference. I'd like to thank everyone for their input too.

Ouch! Glad you're fixed my friend and congrats on your successful DIY!
My dad drove the car to work the other day... He stopped to get a coffee and when he restarted the car it went into limp home mode again. He drove it the 2 blocks to his garage and read it with a scanner. Its coming up with P0500. I looked it up and its the vechicle speed sensor. Now, is this a sensor in the wheel, or transmission. I've looked up posts here and some talk about the ABS sensors and some talk about the transmission conductor plate. I drove the car plenty of times after resetting the EGS and it was fine. The only difference was it was raining on this particular day. Anyone have any insight to this ?
Speed sensor is more likely on the transmission. Are you familiar wit Russian site showing nice drawings and part numbers? Don't have the address now, but can dig it later. It was called on this forum thousands times.
No, I'm not familar with it. The service manual on cd does call the abs sensors in the wheels VSS, I'm assuming Vechicle Speed Sensor like the scanner calls them. Still up in the air about it tho.
codes are in the p0700 to low p0800 range, not at home now but p0500 range is down in the speed sensor and idle circuit values,if i remember correctly. That is what might be triggering the limp mode.
Well, saturday I went to pick it up at my dads garage and the codes were gone and it some how cleared itself of Limp Home Mode. Drove it home and it was fine for a bit. My dad drove it back to his garage yesterday and it went into Limp Home Mode driving home. I pulled the codes and got 715 and 720. Cleared them and reset the ME and EGS and it drove like a champ all last night tooling around town and on the highway. My dad took it back to work today again and on the way it went into Limp Home Mode again. The codes are back... He thinks the car is a jinx because it only happens when he drives it.
oh lord and everyone else, do you have any thoughts on this ? Is there a common cause that invokes the 715 and 720 codes together ?
