I finally got the changer to work correctly after following a previous post stating you need to clean and tape the fiber optic in place. I have been rewarded with flawless sound as a result. If I get the time this weekend I will take the unit out again to find a part number.
I just finished the tear apart, move the CD slider thing back and forth a few times, and reassemble. The player works again! No more empty magazine message.
As for the part number, I took the bracket out, it's the one with the amp attached to it also, and I could not find a part number on it anywhere.
Sorry for the lack of number.
Thanks for the repair info.
Regards,
Boris

Well who knew I could be so helpful... I am glad that some one has benefited from my little foray into car stereo repair. Still looking for a mounting bracket though. had to put this project aside to concentrate on work and all that stuff. Fix one problem and ten others pop up.
As one who never gives up, I'm almost at the "I give up" stage with the changer in my 2000 wagon. I went thru the whole fix outlined in previous posts and "Eureka" the changer worked like a champ until yesterday. Suddenly I got the infamous "No Magazine" message. When I tried to eject the magazine to recycle, the magazine mechanism cycled but would not reject. After numerous attempts and no result I removed the entire assembly and checked all connections. They were all secure and reinstalled. Still the same effect. Has anyone just said "Screw it" and bought another changer that plugs in through the FM antenna and pressed on without the fiber optic connection? Or does the super sophictication of the system negate this option? A $100 changer off EBay would be simpler than paying MB techs to attempt a repair. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Well I didn't give up. For one last try, I pulled out the changer and disconnected the infamous plug and voila the cartridge ejected when I pressed the eject button. Then when I plugged everything back together again and reinserted the magazine it played. However when I press the #4 and 5 buttons to pull up the #4 and 5 discs it shows a "No CD" message. It will play consectitivly tho. Any ideas?
Hi Guys, Great thread. I also have a 2000 e320. Does the changer need a special fiber connector? Mine has the Mercedes Benz Fiber Optic Bypass Coupler Part Number 000-545-33-84 as I bought it without the changer.
Thanks

Hi Craphound.
Never heard of such an interesting device but it's kind of self explanatory. It would make possible to hookup any non fiber optic changer to the system. Not sure about displaying on the main cluster or steering wheel controls operation though.
Cheers
