Please take a moment to fill out your user profile, available from the "User CP" link near the top of the page. It helps to know your location for some things. You should also put the year and model of your car there.
I'm sorry that I don't have the answer to your tapping, but hopefully others will chime in soon.
a bunch of symptoms.Did the cel when cleared stay cleared? Is it the engine that you hear tapping?Removing the post cat o2 sensor will do nothing to test cat function if the cat is plugged up.You got it started and revved it up and then it developed a lifter noise?New lifters were installed on an old cam?If still noisy they may take some time to seat in.

Hi, TJ.
My welcome to you as well.
If you had the work done recently and this was the mechanic's diagnosis, I think I would be beating down his door to have him fix the problem he was paid to fix (and pretty much for free). If he's not interested report him to the BBB and the county, city or state attorney for fraud (assuming you're in the states, as Matt L said, please complete your profile). If he is a legit mechanic he's going to feel horrible that he charged you lots of money to do nothing at all to rectify the problem.
So that is where I would start; if there's no joy there to be had, then I would take it to a couple of other folks. Noises -- particularly without detailed descriptions, conditions, etc. can be difficult to diagnose on a web forum.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Sometimes lifters are also misdiagnosed commonly as the source of many noises when in reality they are quite trouble free, sorta. Dirt contamination on a sludged engine is the number one cause of true lifter noises, low oil pressure is number two.
thanks for your fast reply .he is saying that now he has to take it a part again and look at the rockers he said that the cam was perfect i think the lifters keep sliping out of the rockers? please help
