Thanks Musikmann all note taken! That is why this forum is much better than any other (bmw) forums.

You're welcome osdesierto,

By the way, congratulations on the E63! I've seen very few of those and I'd love to have one.

osdesierto:

I'm curious. What was the cause of your steering noise. My 2000 E430 4Matic just started making what I'd describe as a "rubbing" sound; this happens at low speed (less than 30 kph/20 mph). When I turn the steering wheel left or right, I get this new noise.

Anybody?

Tim

T-88,

I went through this too and I think I understand it. There is a gasket or seal deep down along the rack portion of your rack and pinion steering. Heat and wear eventually causes it to become dry and brittle; it then starts making what most people describe as a squeaking sound in the steering wheel. The latest MB dealer service bulletin says to remove the rack, replace the gasket, and do a front end alignment.

My bad! I noticed that in your profile but I thought it was a typo. I have never heard or seen an E53 but congrats on that one then.

Not a problem T-88. I don't know much, but I share what little I do.
