Oh - BTW, as an interesting aside. I bought the car in Houston and drove it home to Colorado Springs. On the Dallas-to-Amarillo leg of the trip, I averaged 74mph and 28.6mpg, according to the onboard computer. I pretty darn impressed with that. The cars love extended cruising on flat, oxygen-dense, sea-level roads don't they.

booker, I know of what you speak.
For bookers eyes only! I have been playing around with my fog lamps and have tried a few cheap HID kits. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/test...9-99e430s.html
My first set exhibited poor light pattern and did leak way too much. I spoke with other members here and found the secret is a/the shorter bulb that comes with the slim HID kits on E-Bay. (I don't have the name now) Now that I had some time to make HIDs permanent I bought new fog lamps and Slim HID kit Did the install and it works fantastic, the cut off is sharp and very little leak the light pattern is a nice wide fan that works as a fog lamp should, by not shining on the ground but illuminating any obstruction on it. The improvement over stock is considerable. And you could wire them to work with high and low beam lights. Please read on
But I did not stop at the fogs, I bought more cheap HIDs re-based in H7 and tried them in the low beam BAD BAD BAD leaked all over the place, stick with the H7 65W rally bulb. So now I figure why not put the HID re-based H7 in the high beams? I did, can you say flame thrower WOW (ohlord are you reading this?) I can not explain in words how GREAT and how illegal this lighting mod is. Yes they do take a little time to reach full potential and yes it is hard on the ballast to cycle them. SO Loveland, Berthound, Tennessee,
Hoosier, Fremont you can make the pass like it is day time.

I have been dragging my feet on two mods, one being the muffler and the other being new springs. If you get the muffler first please post your experience. I love the sound and height of the stock E55. That is my goal for both. I'm just afraid that if i proceed with both mods they may me louder or lower that I planned.
Your car reminds me of mine before i put the 18" monos on.

Here is a little mod that I did to me W210 E Class a while back to flash the full beam headlights and fog lights together to get a 'Flashing' effect similar to the 'Boys-in-blue'.
It was a simple adjustable relay that I wired into the headlights and fogs, and then I could activate it by a small micro-switch I secretly mounted under my dashboard.
(Hope you can see the video clip)

I doubt that I'd just go with a muffler, although that's one option, I'll probably just go all the way cat back. What's current going rate for stock E55 muffler? One other thing I'd like to get done is have a cut-out made into the lower plastic of the rear bumper and have the tips protrude out through that. The 'hidden' tailpipes setup stinkx (imho), and having my nice polished tips beneath the bumper, and therefore just 7 or 8 inches (?) off the ground doesn't exactly float my boat either. I know a couple of good body guys that could do it easily. If anyone knows of such a set up, I'd appreciate a link or pic.
ha ha ha lol...your right there!!...however a nice woman kindly slammed into the back fo my lovely E Class before Christmas and damaged it beyond reasonable repair...Maybe if I had the lights on the back she would have seen me!... I now have a gorgeous CLK..
You might check out a wiring diagram of a facelifted W202 (97-00)... my lows and fogs stay on when I use my high beams... serious light out front on the dark roads!!
