I had a problem a few weeks ago. Had codes that related first to cyl3 misfire, the 1 and 2. I replaced all the plugs and the wires and coil packs for all three cylinders(apparantly prematurley) and all seemed fine. Cleard the codes and went on my way. Well, the CEL light and "Check engine electronics" meassage came back. OBD says misfire on cyl 1 and 2.
I suspect either the cats or a fuel delivery problem is to blame. In a previous thread, OhLord spoke about listening to the fuel rail on either side to see if there was a difference in sound; I will do that in a little while. I don't hear any ratteling in the cats but they are still suspect(126,000 miles).
What is the procedure for checking the cats with a laser tem probe. What should the pre and post readings be?
Any other suggestions?
I want to avoid the dealer and I live in a rural area that doesn't have a indipendent Mercedes shop.
thanks,
Ben
