Angry HEATER FAN...

Greetings to all my fellow W210 owners!!!

I have a 1996 E320 and have a question about the heater fan that needs answers . Lately it stopped blowing air, temp works fine, nice and warm or I can change it to a nice and cold temp. The problem is that the air doesnt come out with any pressure. If I crank it up full blast, it still comes out as if it were on low.

I took it to a few shops, one guy says assumed it was a seized fan and requires new resistors, costing roughly $800. Another guy said it was my center control unit, costing $1000. A friend said it could be something to do with just the fuse box, with a burnt or missing fuse. Any ideas from my fellow benz lovers??

I live in Toronto, Canada, finding a good, honest indie shop has been a problem since I got this car, any recommendations??

Try the fuse first, if not the fuse it may be the rheostat which controlls the fan speed.

Voltage Regulator. The early version of the voltage regulator is attached to the blower motor. They have been retro fitted and are now seperate. Hence you will need a new voltage regulator, a new blower motor and a new cover. That is expensive. sorry.

The

fan works but only low speed? So it is not the fuse. The regulator must be bad.Look in the diy section.$500 bucks for the upgraded parts autohausaz.com if the fan was shot or in this case since it works the cheapo fix
Early W210 Blower Motor Regulator Replacement DIY Here... - MBWorld.org Forums the use of the other model unit.So if the fan is blowin but only on low,it is good, just do the fix above and you are good to go.

and unhook the battery so we don't have to fix anything fried during the repair
that's the blower motor regulator to correct the member above not the voltage regulator

Thank you guys soo much!!! I'm going to place my order for a 140 regulator from autohuaz and adapt it to fit my w210 myself. Thank you both OhLord (who helped me out dozens of times) and Kobus for the pictorial DIY.

By the looks of what I am reading from all the links you guys showed me, I am having the exact same symptoms as everyone else who did this DIY repair. The fan seems to work, only at limited capacity, so hopefully his new regulator should solve my problem. I am so happy this fix just went down from $1000 to only $200. I will keep you all posted on my progress, and thanks for your interest in helping out!!

Also

I did not think of it since your's is a 96 but a check of autohausaz.com shows you have the cabin and charcoal pollution filters on the 96 and if the cabin filters are very dirty and have not been changed for years it may be the problem(sort of like blowing a fan through a blanket) and you have no need for the regulator, wouldn't that be nice
diy to check them is in the diy section, pull them out and see if the blower blows full speed. If dirty and the fan still won't go up to speed replace them anyway it is time.
