I recently took a road trip and discovered that at speed above 100km/h my car take long to shift from 4th to 5th. Even if I lift off to try and get it to change, it simply slows down but does not shift.
The car has 80 000km on the clock and I've had it since 40 000km. I'm not sure whether the transmission was serviced before. Will a service help resolve the problem or it could be something more than that??
Those transmissions are "Driver adaptive". If you use the engine for strong acceleration and braking a lot, it is going to hold the gears for longer. I have the issue a lot after mountain driving.
I just serviced transmission on my E300D at 240,000 miles and fresh fluid with lower viscosity softens the gear changes, but doesn't change the computer shifting.
I've been driving as usual, what amazes me is that even lilfting my foot to force the shift doesnt work at speeds above 100km/h. At lower speeds shift into 5th is as normal. I will certainly take it in to the shop.
