I just bought a 1998 E430 Sport with 94k miles. I was looking for a BMW and somehow fell in love with this 430..dunno how that happened but I digress.
I have a question for you experts and please excuse me if it has been asked before.
I did a carfax on the car and it shows the car was serviced pretty regularly and the last recommended service was done around 80k.
My question is how do I find out what was done?
also what do i need to do at 100k?
Sorry for this silly question, but I guess i am just confused as to what to do maintenance wise as I am not too big on over maintaining my car, just the very necessary stuff.
TIA

to change the oil and filter.Diy in the diy section, get the topsider or similar unit.Or if not the diy type find a good indie shop, never jiffy lube places
Most services include oil change and inspection of all wear parts, refill fluids, etc.
100 k service is the same plus time for plug change diy in the diy section.
94tho it is past time to get the transmission fluid changed diy ditto or find a good indie shop to do it,mb spec fluid only.
enjoy
a general guide to what is done, and as you see a well maintained car should have these inspections completed and you can do most if not all of them. 2001 Mercedes-Benz E320: Service "A" and "B"

I found out who the original dealer was and they gave me a printout of everything that was done under warranty and also what the owner paid for. That was easy since there were only 52,000 on the car and it had just been traded in. If there have been mulitiple owners it will be more difficult, unless the car has always been serviced by MB dealers. Some will give you the "privacy protection" garbage, but if you're lucky (as I was) you might find one or more who will co-operate with you.
Start out by asking for the VMI (vehicle master inquiry) but keep in mind that will not reveal everything, even if certain things were done by dealers. That should at least tell you most of what was done during the 1st 4 years/50,000 miles.

Hi Muskimanm,
I just got my merc 01 yesterday with 50700 miles on it and it say that "A" service due in 400 miles. After I follow all the check list in A-Service and do the oil change (DIY) then my question is how do I reset the maintenance service counter.
I do not know if this has been answered on the forum already but as a Newbie, I thought to ask straight out.

I recently acquired a 2000 E430 4Matic, purchased from a Canadian MB dealer. They provided me with a printout of all the authorized service that had been done on my car that had been done at another MB dealership in Calgary since the car was new.
You should be able to request from your MB dealership a similar printout on on all the work done by a MB dealership on your vehicle, even if it was purchased and serviced at another authorized dealership.
for the 01 should be in the manual.
# Sit in the drivers seat and close the door.
# Turn the key to position 2.
# To load the trip odometer and main odometer, press button 3 or 4 on the multifunction steering wheel until the display appears.
# Press button 5 or 6 until the FSS indicator appears.
# Press button R on the instrument cluster for approximately 2 seconds.
# The multifunction display asks: DO YOU WANT TO RESET SERVICE INTERVAL? - CONFIRM BY PRESSING R
# Press button R on the instrument cluster again, and hold until a signal sounds. The message SERVICE INTERVAL HAS BEEN RESET appears in the multifunction display.
