I used the search, couldnt find anything for these questions. So first one, I let my GF take the benz out today... What a bad idea, it came home with the cruise control lever broken. It feels like its not attached to anything in the housing. Just kinda flops around.
Next question. I cleaned the duoalve, and topped of the coolant, but im still getting only warm air for heat. The temp gauge does fluctuate some, when on the highway, and intown driving, but im at a loss on this one.
Car is a E320, 97, 140k. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Ive also noticed from looking at a bunch of the members pictures of their care the temp gauge looks like it gets to about half way up, mine does not, it will go to about a 1/4 of the way, and then sometimes get aboug t to half once in a while but then drops back to 1/4. Thought that might be good to point out if it leads anyone to something i could check, as its about 4 fareinhieght here and i dont like being cold in my car heh.
No ideas huh? well i did pick up a thermostat last night... of course though my kid desided to use my socket set and keep it... i have to get some external torx tonight and try that. ill letcha know if it works, or changes anything.

Re the temp: Sounds like to me a new thermostat is a good place to start. We have different cars but even if it is very cold outside, my normal operating temperature is about 80 C. During the summer, it will run about 90.

Im concerned that that will not help your problem though, because the cruise, turn signal, and telephone levers are on the same ring. It seems like the gf may have actually broken something inside the CC lever (perhaps because she thought it was the turn signal and pushed to hard?). You may have to investigate this. The loose column ring problem usually doesn't occur suddenly either.
