while driving home last evening my light flashed twice. How do I know it is the seat? could it not be something else? Where can you take the car for a computer diognosis be sides the mercedes dealer?
I have helped do yet another (4) and this is the result of my experience...
1. Have the codes read, by an inde, having the seat pad SRS light on will 'MASK' other ( emergency tensioning retractor ) belt and bag faults.
2, Buy a NEW sensor first, I have not seen ANY signs of wear ( wires, scraping, breaks ) at all. The sensor 'dots' fail with use/age. Sensors cost 140 US$ at MB.
2. Take the seat out of the car, period. If you have never done one, and are not an MB tech, or leather repair expert, 5 bolts and some clips and the seat is out. Don't even try to in car cover remove. you will me$$ it up!
3. Allow an extra 2 hours to shampoo the carpet under BOTH front seats. which is what you will do when you see all the gack under the seat. My car gets 'mini detailed' weekly and it still had lots of filth under the seat(s). Record amount of coins found so far.. $16.83 US$.
4. Replace the pad while you are at it. for a few bucks more you can improve the comfort of the seat to factory new, I did both and it is worth it.
Thanks 2 all who helped with this, you know who you are.
This is an EASY diy, do it!

stays on all the time, AND the air bag off light stays on, this would lead some to believe the seat pad ( ass mass ) sensors is bad.
a flashing or intermitant srs light is 'other faults.
BE Clear Here, when you fix the fault, The Light WILL go off by itself.
Look for an independent mechanic shop that displays the 'pie', better yet, post here - good inde needed in tenn. many will advise you, We Know!!
Thank you very much for your effort and the pics in this thread MRBSMITH.
I've got the same problem at first the SRS Light sometimes goes off but
then it was all the time on. I will check out as described.
Thanks again and many greets from Germany and Turkey.
Best Regards

What is the part number and item description for the clips that hold the leather pad that you suggested to just break and replace?
Part number for seat pad?
Maybe stupid question. I saw in another forum thread the suggestion to just disconnect the old seat pad sensor and connect the new one and just lay the sensor on the floor without installing it properly on the seat. I can see the advantage of not having to disassemble the seat and ends up being a 5 minute job. Is that possible and still be safe (i.e., SRS will still work, just the child seat function is "disabled")?
OK, seat pad is 210 910 29 50, the sensor pad number I do not give out as yours MIGHT be different, go to MB and run the vin 4 it. Also, you might see a picture in the diy post 4 dat.
As has been said, do not do the in car replace, you WILL scratch and nick something, and you will have to look at those, just pull ths seat, 5 bolts, some clips and tip it out.
As has been said, the SRS system is one of the things that make the 210 the safest car ever built(arg.), don't mickey-mouse jesus parts.
Hope this helps.
I can't believe it, 5 stars and over 2k hits, matt, maybe we should just leave it.
Don't break the clips, this is an error corrected in a subsequent post.
TWIST them 90" and they release instantly and easily.
Sorry about all of you who broke them, we are not perfect,,,,,,yet.
66 I am comming back over to pick up my B-car early next year. I will keep this wonderfull 210 for ever, but I need a city car in LA-CA-USA, so I am greying it in.
Got the sensor and pad from Parts.com today. I unplug the old sensor and plug the new one in and the SRS light magically turns off. YES!!!!
I will take out the seat and install the pad and sensor this weekend. Thanks again for the help and info.
And yes...Rock Chalk alright! My beloved hokies got humbled in the orange bowl last year by KU. That Rock Chalk is a pretty interesting and popular college chant.
I replaced the pad sensor and put the seat back in the car. The SRS light is still on but the Air Bag Off light is off. So I think replacing the pad sensor turned the Air Bag Off light off and that the new sensor is good.
Does something need to be reset so that the SRS light will turn off?
Check under the DRIVERS seat, MB breaks wires with zip ties, cut the zip tie where two wires are tied to the seat frame.
In fact, I am seeing broken wires at the zip ties under both front seats, and prior to sensor replacement, one might cut that zip tie just in case that is the problem ( kudos ohlord!).
