Down, forward and back work but not up (set/accel) I can set it by exceeding the desired speed and pressing down(decel). Any ideas on how to remove the switch to dry/clean it out would be appreciated.

try some tuner cleaner and spray the heck out of it,put some rags underneath to protct the carpet from any dirt.Removal is in the diy about steering wheel removal and then the collar comes off and the stalk. After you see what is required to get the collar off you may consider the spray Step 6
How did you get liquid in there anyhow? ohlord

Probably by holding the drink in his left hand like gregs210 suggested to keep liquid out of the shifter apparatus. Maybe the MB designers who didn't originally put cupholders in these beasts had their reasons? Sorry, I couldn't resist that

I mixed up some oxy clean and went to town on my interior. It looks so good, like new really (carpet, seats and all the trim). I guess I wasn't careful enough. I will try some spray. Maybe pick up a can of canned electronic gas as it comes out with a small amt of liquid to clean off whatever residue remains from the oxy clean solution.
Tips: Do not scrub anything the color may come off of (seats, steering wheel, door leather) wipe clean with water (prevents white residue) and watch out for the electronics!
think you got lucky on that oneGlass cleaner is water based, you could have done more damage than good.Always use a non residue tuner or electronics cleaner and then dry it before trying the part.
glad it worked,
