Transmission Mount & front caster

Hello all... I have a 98 E430 with 102k miles, just did the motor mounts and was wondering if the transmission mount deteriorates like the motor mounts do; should it be replaced - does it make any difference? The engine mounts made a world of difference, quiet, smooth.... Just wondering because I still have an occaisional exhaust rattle, sounds like the exhaust hits one of the heat shields...

Also, the alignment guy told me that the caster/camber needs to be adjusted and that there are seperate adjusting eccentric bushings for the a arms; never heard of this - anyone else dealt with this?

Hey, SS. The transmission mount does wear out but not like the engine ones do, and I doubt it would add any noise such as you're describing. That sounds more like a bad cat, loose heat shield (if equipped) or there were some earlier 210s (not sure of the model years involved) that had a bracket (exhaust or heat shield) that can come loose and rattle.

MB does have their own way (albeit an accepted way) of providing for alignment. If you trust your "alignment guy" then have it adjusted, if you don't, take it elsewhere for a second opinion. If you've dropped it sufficiently you actually have to have new cam bolts installed to permit the angles to be correctly set.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg
