Thumbs up Good call ohlord

on the Akebono pads. You've always been recommending them, but I've never seen any feedback, so I've decided that I'll provide some.
I've replaced by OEM front pads with the Akebono pads after I got tired of all the dust. In the interest of scientific observation, I did not wash my car for about 4 weeks after replacing the pads (of course it was a pure coincidence that it was also cold and rainy during that time ) and the front wheels was still without dust. The rears (which I always thought was dust free) had more dust than the fronts.
The Akebono pads do seem to require quite a long time to settle in. I did not replace the front rotors, so the pads had to adapt to the wear patterns on the rotors. The OEM pads, which I had fitted 3,000 miles earlier, was settled in about 100 miles. The Akebonos in contrast required about 3,000 miles before they were fully settled. Part of the reason is that the contact area of the Akebonos is about 1/10 of an inch more to-wards the outside of the rotor, thus bringing the ridge left by the previous pads into play. For about the first 100 miles, it felt as if there was some air in the brake lines and some light squealing. It did not affect the brake performance however. After that the squealing disappeared, but the pedal sensitivity was still reduced. The sensitivity has been improving the whole time and now after 3,500 miles it is about back to normal or maybe slightly less than the OEM pads. Pad wear seem to be very good and I expect a longer life than with the OEM pads. Performance is also very good, whether wet or dry.
I think if I had new rotors, it would have probably settled in very quickly. The Akebonos seem to be harder than the stock pads so that is why they took so long to settle in properly. Probably a point to remember if the rotors are worn badly. I'm not sure what the impact of the Akebonos will be on rotor life, but I can only hope that it does not reduce it by much.
O yes, and the best part - the Akebono pads seems to be Made in the USA. And they include new sensors and lubricant to put on the back of the pads.

In the Future

if you have rotors that are still in pristine shape, take some 120 grit sand paper and while spinning the rotor by hand lightly deglaze them by using a cross hatch motion with the sand paper.Rinse with brake cleaner and proceed with the install. That will help seat those new pads.

if you had a ridge and less then perfect rotors, that is why it took so long to break them in,next time replace the rotors. They are due
