Pre-facelift E320, water in the battery compartment
I had damp carpet in the front passenger side, thinking it may have came from a blocked drainage area near the firewall.
The other night my fog lights stayed on, the siren blasted and my battery ran down. Yes there was water in the battery compartment. I've disconnected the PSE which had a lot of corrosion inside, can't tell how long this has happened. Has anyone else had this happen and find the source of the water entry? It's not from a spilled bottle of water.
Rather than continue dragging the other thread off course and take the chance your new, important issue was lost in the muddle, I created a new thread for your issue. There are a few posts on this and there is a known issue with the pre-facelift W210 for exactly this leak.
I can't recall the last thread I saw it in, but for some reason I seem to recall that Matt L was most familiar with the issue. If he doesn't see this and post in then you might try a PM to him.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I don't think I know any more about this than anyone else, and I haven't experienced a wet PSE on my car.
However, were I to look for water intrusion there, my first suspect would be the sunroof drain. My second would be the rear wheel well. My third is to own up to your bottled water habit. Ok, that's not really my third.
