console module & Diet Dr. Pepper
I have had my 2001 e430 4matic now for a couple of weeks and now my shifter console has acquired a taste for Diet Dr. Pepper, as a matter of fact, after its first few drops, it was show time. Now my e430 always shows me that it has a neat engine, by showing a me picture of an engine lit up on the dash! It also has a top speed of approx. 35-40 miles an hour, I guess it is to help save gas? I know these shifters are a nightmare when they have been wet, so now whats next, I've got the console off, down the bare shifter?

I don't remember the fix but there have been numerous threads on liquid spillage into the shift apparatus. If you don't get a timely reply, try the search function. Good Luck!

Howabout a closer look at where the soda went. If its into that electronics board consider removing it, cleaning it, checking it for shorts and reassembling it back into the shifter console.
PLEASE take a little while to do a little reserarch on ESD (electrostatic dipative) damage due to static. HANDLE THAT LIL BOARD WITH CARE, ITS FRAGILE AND EXPENSIVE.
when removing a component board get and ESD bag or 2 from radio shack and handle it accordingly to what you are satified with. Use a magnifying glass or better yet a microscope (yes, not everyone has one) to look over the board for shorts caused by the pop or blown resistors or capacitors. blown caps and resistors may appear charred, but they may not.
a MB scematic with values will give you the proper number values to check with the DMM. Outside of scematic value? possibly damaged by pop.
Secondly, scrub off any offending Dr. Pepper with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. let air dry. check the conectors with a DMM (digital multimeter) set to "beep" again looking for shorts.
Reassemble and see if it makes a difference? I dunno...

Up in the sticky is a link to a thread in the 208 forum. Basically blast the board -- generously -- with electrical contact cleaner and let dry. Disconnect the battery if you haven't already. Reassemble the board and console. Reconnect the battery, resolve the resets and radio code per the manual, cross your fingers and start it up. The testing reference is all well and good, but you already know it's the board.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg
