suggestions? right front end
97 e420 ball joint question
few months ago i had some noise coming from the right front!
so i jacked it up and found the tie rod end was done!
and shocks were leaking
so i ordered new front bilstiens heavy duty shocks and new tie rod ends
i put those in 2 months ago and its been golden,
last couple of days ive had a humming noise sorta like the tire has a flat spot
so i figured wheel bearing,
i put the rear tire on the front, and went for a drive to see if it was a tire or rim problem, nope noise still there!
next day i put in a new set of wheel bearings, no difference noise still there
only thing left is upper and lower ball joints,,,,
can these cause that sort of noise???
the lower ball joint has some play,,,,??
any suggestions before i go replace ball joints too?
thats all there is left!!
any how car is awesome 150 000 km

did you check the sway bar bushings? they could be making the noise. if you decide to replace those, might as well replace the sway bar link. they cost around $10/bushings $5, really easy job. then your car will be ready for another 150k miles.

yes bushings seem ok,,,,,the sound its making is more of a spinning sound, like somethin is rubbing??
all i can think is brake rotor now,,,,they are about 50% and bit grooved!
???
Does the noise increase proportionally to vehicle speed (or engine speed)? Are you 100% sure it is coming from the wheel? There are some harmonic noises that may not appear at idle, but occur once under way and are not rotational. (To wit, the cats can do this...). Once under way as you continue to accelerate does it ever go away or diminish?
FWIW, a rotor that was badly damaged enough to make noise just when rolling would be completely intolerable once you applied the brake.
If you are 100% sure it is a rotational sound from the right front, take another look at things. I have seen cases where road debris has deflected the dust rotor shield, causing it to lightly rub the rotor, so take a good close look at everything in there.
Beyond that, before you throw more time and money at it, call a couple of tire shops and see if they have an on-the-car wheel balancer. Hopefully they would do this for a cheapo price, but that would allow you -- with no surrounding road or chassis noise -- to accelerate just that wheel. If there is no noise, then it's very likely it's not coming from that wheel after all.
Hope some of that helps.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

yeah, ill check it out again, that dust sheild is pretty close to things, ill have a look,,yes its a rotational sound,,not at idle, and its consistent from start to 120km seems the faster you go it not so noticable,,but around the city you here it alll the time, definitly sounds like its coming from front right, almost feel it through the gas pedal, ill check and get back to ya,
thanks greg!

driving today, the sound almost seems like it is almost central in the car now,
is there a u jointfrom tranny to drive shaft up front??
i can feel it through the gas pedal, funny enough??
feels like when a cv joint is going in a front wheel drive car!
think im gonna have to put it in a shop to get it rectified!
hate paying some one to do it when i know i can do it myself!
No center bearing on the 210...given that description I'm leaning towards the cats, although if you can actually feel it in the gas pedal (and you're not just thinking you can) that would negate that idea.
New idea: if you haven't changed the fluid and filter in the AT, that may be it. A couple of members have had a sort of whine/vibration that was traced to the transmission and the fluid change took care of that. (One of them it was something internal in the transmission, ended up grenading after a bit, rather expensive repair.)
