My changer doesnt have a problem with CD-R's... if you were having trouble with the disc itself, it would either say "NO DISC" or just skip over that tray in the magazine and move on to the next disc.
"NO MAGAZINE" sounds like the changer isn't recognizing the magazine at all... which is why it won't eject... it doesnt think anything is there.
Try pushing the magazine in a little more and maybe wiggle it around to see if it will catch.

It seems to me you have the same problem I just had with a cd player I bought on Ebay. I wasn't able to make it paly in my car it just said No Magazine. I returned it to the person I bought it from. He had told me it had been tested but no way to get it to work.
Hey, pro, you may be getting to the point that it's time to try omeyhomey's fix.
Mine plays cd-rs just fine, although I have to say that I always record them at slower speeds. Some cd players (not just those in cars) can be finicky about that, so I always go with 6x, 8x or 10x at most.
A couple of times in the past my head unit has failed to recognize the changer, in each case a reset/reboot fixed it and it has been a long time since it has recurred. I'd suggest starting there.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Keep in mind that the dye on the cdrs can play a part as to what the cd player is able to read. Try using a different brand that has a different color under the bottom. I use Best Buy brand called Dynex and it works great on my E-bay purchased cd changer. Just installed it yesterday and plays great!
I've also had no issues with Sony branded disks. The dye type is probably more important; my recorder tells me the dye type when making the disk, but I've never noted what it actually was. The dye type also never seems to be printed on the package.
