Tune up?

My E320/96 when I turn the engine on the engine goes from 5RPM to 15 RPM back and forward for about 5 times during a few seconds and than after a couple of a minutes the same thing the aceleration goes up and down from 5 to 15RPM once again. Is that can be a Tune-up needed?

thanks ohlord. Remember mine is 1996/E320.

Wht about this acceleration up and down when I am parked and not performing to well when I start driving. Do you think that could be spak plugs, fuel filter...?

marco, take your car to an autozone, they will read the codes for free. if you have an indie close to you with a das system, then have him check the car. fuel filter needs to be changed every 60k miles, so if it hasn't been changed for that period, you should probably change it, fuel filter for your car costs like $15. also get fuel pressure reading at idle and after you shut off the car. could be the fuel pressure regulator also try cleaning the maf with the crc maf cleanser and see if that helps. also could be the o2 sensor, or the throttle body. has the o2 sensor ever been changed? anyways, first thing to do would be to read the codes.

ok I have took the car to Autozone for a free code reader scan and it was showing a bad MAF. I have already ordered 01 and it will arrive at the store tomorrow. I will post the updates. Tks folks!

[Autozone...]

I hope the MAF ordered was an OE type Bosch unit... there have been a good number of posts here [and on other on-line forums] regarding problems originating with the installation of non OE sensors in our cars.

Good luck,

JR

what;s the 01? a code reader? did you already order the maf unit? like jr previously stated, don';t buy a non-bosch unit. i haven't had the pleasure myself in replacing my maf, but some members just replace the sensor insert ($130 from germanstar.net), others just buy the whole unit, don't excatly know if there is any difference. replacing just the insert seems to work fine. good luck.
by the way, which codes did they give you at autozone?

Don't buy

a maf from autozone.Clean it first as above suggested, diy in diy section.
also what were the codes they pulled, repeating the ? above.
Always good to post them before you buy a part.

1996 and up were obd2 mandated for stateside sales.
