Trouble/diagnostic code P0455? Changed the gas cap and it's still there? Try cleaning the purge valve...and stop topping-off your gas tank. :)

Thanks to ohlord for providing the expertise and location pics.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

It

comes on at cold start up usually like in the morning.Or you can pull off the back tube and you will hear it tap tap tappin:thumbsup:
ohlord:bowdown:
did you have the code or just cleaning it and checking it to see how things work?;)

Hi ohlord,

sorry for mistaking Greg for the DIY-provider instead of you
I do not have the code, I cleaned it since die DIY stated that one should hear the clicking, but after cleaning it still remains mute. Perhaps the engine was still hot. Will try it next morning at cold start.

Thanks!

I think my purge switchover valve is dead. I tried this morning with a cold engine, heard nothing (stethoscope methode, pulling out the back hose) and felt no pulse (laying hand methode).

No CEL, wondering if there is a code thrown without CEL.

If there

are no excessive fumes or vapor pressure in the tank or lines the purge may not come on.The obd2 system will close some of the valves in the evap system and run the purge pump to monitor system function. If it doesn't find anything out of normal it wont throw a code.So it must be working at the proper time or you would have a code:thumbsup:

On

at times off at times, first as a test of the i/m readiness monitors and then when fumes demand being suctioned off and sent away.

The dealer said that I need to replace the purge valve on my E-320, 2005. I have located the valve, but I'm not sure how to disconnect it from the tubes or the power. One tube has a clamp and the other is very tight, but w/o a clamp. Do I need a special clamp tool? The power connection has a wire clamp that I haven't figured out how to remove. What is required to disconnect the power? Thanks, and reply to rshargis@tds.net

Just clean the purge valve today as per ohlord's instruction. I think the job is too well done, now I cannot hear/feel any tapping on the valve. There were lots of carbon deposits on the exit side (front tube) of the valve, I wonder how black is my intake manifold.

Oh Lord. Just FYI and to make a long story short, I pulled a 400 and 455 trouble code after a 3,000 mile trip to California and back. I used your simple purge valve cleaning DYI after not hearing "the drummer boy" and got --------- when pulling the codes again. Thanks for your advice. All is again well in the world.

im having trouble caused by the purge valve.. it does 'drum away' but....

thers an audible 'tok-tok-tok' noise coming from under the rear passenger seat. its extremely annoying, I CANT STAND IT!! so i wanna get rid of it.

does anyone kno how to remove it? and after i have removed it what should i do with the hoses?

any help appreciated

That has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the purge valve. (Nice thread hijack, too, BTW...)

What you're hearing is the PSE pump.

Remove it and you've shut off several systems in the car. Including the door locks, to name but one.

So you have two choices.

Replace the PSE pump (or perhaps try and rebuild it, or have you looked under the seat? It may be in a puddle of water and half shorting out.)

Sell the car and get a Honda that doesn't have all of these things to annoy you.

Mercedes Purge Valve

I have got a 1996 W202 C230 Sport KOMPRESSOR in Manual, my car has a problem where it cuts out when i come to a stop but not every time so now i have to hold revs on a bit to keep it running which is obviously dangerous at junctions, i think it might be the purge valve, if so will all that has been said so far work on mine as well?

Thanks Any Response Appreciated.

Batamerc - that's not purge

Mataamerc, if you car is dying (warm) coming to a stop:

1) If you car just "cuts out" (like silently dies, not a whimper) when warm then that most likely a CPS sensor. This issue will rapidly become worse. Do a forum search.

2) If the car "starts choking, like gasping for air " (like its going to die for lack of gas or air) then that is most likely MAF. Again, do a forum search.

Keep the beat !

my car is r129 sl500 I have located the valve, but I'm not sure how to disconnect it from the tubes that has claps on them. Do I need a special clamp tool? or just to pull strong?

thank you :)
Don't pull or you're liable to break the valve. Clic/clic-r pliers are needed, or you can cut them off and replace with conventional gear-drive clamps.

Goods luck.

My freind car W203 2005 C320 4Matic.

He is having hard time putting any fuel in the car, even at the slowest speed at the gas station he managed to put 12 liters but it took him like a lot of time. Every time he tries it just clicks and the flow stops.

He told me that last time he topped the car with fuel (not over filling) he smelled some gas odor, but didn't stop to check if there was some leak. When he stopped there was nothing leaking but the smell was strong.

Should we try cleaning the purge valve? Is it related to the gas filling problem?
