NEW TIP Diff fluid change

DIFF FLUID CHANGE TIP>>>>>>>>>>>Used this on my MGB and realized it will work on the w210 when servicing the rear differential fluid. So maybe add it in your tool box.Made pumping in the dif fluid a piece o cake
At Wal-Mart they sell a little hand pump for adding oil to the lower unit of an outboard motor. You can find it in with the outboard motor oil and service stuff. This pump screws right on to the top of the bottle of Diff lube when the little pointy spout is removed. Simply pump the oil into the fill plug hole until it runs out.
less than 10 bucks, time and energy saved priceless

diy section has that great write up on the change, thought this little tool is a nice addition to the text.

I pushed a piece of tubing over the pointy end and almost didn't even make a mess. Next time, I'm finding that pump.

Differential fluid tip

My post below should have been tittled this instead of used this on.

They used to just sell those as Gear Oil pump kits, I bought one from a then-locally owned small chain named Auto Shack back when I worked for them. Later they sold out, expanded, and became Auto Zone. Still have the pump, still works fine. It worked absolutely best when adding G/O to the gearbox of my Z-28; there was only a couple of inches between the side of the box and the transmission tunnel, no way to do anything but that.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Apparently Redline gear oil is a little tough to find here. What other products would you recommend as a substitute? If there is a substitute what grade, 75-90?

Mercedes recommends 85-90w gear oil, its still ok to use 75-90w?

The Mercedes manual lists 1.4qts of differential fluid required. The DIY used 1qt of Redline fluid. Is this ok? Or purchase 2 bottles and use 1.5 bottles to meet specs?
